Businesses, no matter the size must have a website. Those businesses without websites are missing potential sales and leads. Here are five reasons why your business needs a website.
1. Websites are more affordable today than in the past.
- If you have basic computer skills, are comfortable with using the internet and feel a bit adventurous, you can easily build your own website and maintain it. Today’s technology has enabled the average computer user to easily build a site that looks good and puts you on the map. A basic site can be up and running in just a couple of days.
- For the non-tech savvy, there are plenty of options for having a site built for your business.
- When building or having a site built, make sure you use a platform such as WordPress. This will allow you to maintain the site without the cost of paying a developer to make minor changes. The idea of maintaining a website sounds overwhelming to a lot of people, it is rather simple when using WordPress. I tell my customers if you can use Microsoft Word/Outlook or send an email with an attachment, then you can update your site.
2. Help people find you!
- Having a website that appears on the first page of a search engine (Google, Bing, Yahoo) is a great way to ensure you are going to gain new business. People are using the internet more and more to find phone numbers, addresses, and businesses in their local area. If your business is not listed, your competitor is going to get your potential customer.
3. People research online before they buy.
- The current trend among consumers is to shop online and then go to the store to buy. Customers want to be informed about their purchasing decisions. It is important that you have a website that answers potential questions that your customer may have. If you can answer the questions and your competitor doesn’t, then you have a leg up!
4. Makes your business look professional.
- Consumers have an expectation that a business should have a website. Those business that don’t have websites appear to be less professional in a consumers eyes. Keep in mind these are people who have never done business with you and are searching for a product or service that you offer.
- A website that looks professional and answers important questions about your business and products helps to build trust with the consumer.
5. Make sales when you are closed.
- Your business has the potential to make sales when you are closed. If you have an ecommerce site, you will earn money when your are sleeping, vacationing, and closed for the weekend!
- However, you do not have to have an ecommerce site to earn the sale. As stated before, customers research before they buy. If your site convinces them that you have what they need, customers will call or come to your business to purchase your products/services.
There is a common theme through four out of the five reasons and that is you reach and build trust with people you normally would never meet. The more trust you build, the more sales you will make.
